OCR remains at 2.25%

The Reserve Bank today 18th Feb 2026 decided to hold the Official Cash Rate ( OCR ) at 2.25% citing –

  • They have cut the OCR 8 times since Aug 2024

  • Inflation has fallen since its peak in 2022

  • Inflation was temporarily outside the target band of 1 to 3% at the end of 2025 but expecting its already back in the target range in the first quarter of this year

  • They expect inflation to fall back to the target of 2% over the next 12 months

  • Economic activity is picking up supported by low interest rates and high prices for exports like dairy and meat

  • Unemployment is expected to decline this year as businesses start to hire more workers.
