Cash Flow Is King: Is Your Money Working Hard Enough?

For many New Zealand businesses, profitability is only part of the equation. A business can be profitable on paper and still struggle to pay wages, suppliers, tax bills and loan repayments. The difference often comes down to one thing: cash flow.

Cash flow is the movement of money into and out of a business. When payments arrive on time and expenses are managed effectively, a business is better positioned to meet its commitments, invest in growth and weather unexpected challenges.

However, cash flow pressure can arise even in a successful business. Customers may take 30 or 60 days to pay, while wages, fuel, stock and supplier invoices need to be paid now. Seasonal businesses, including farming, construction, forestry and contracting, can face additional pressure when income fluctuates throughout the year.

This is where having the right financial structure matters.

Options such as working capital facilities, overdrafts, short-term business lending, invoice finance and equipment finance can help businesses manage timing gaps and preserve cash reserves. For example, financing a new vehicle or piece of machinery rather than paying the entire cost upfront may leave more working capital available for day-to-day operations.

But borrowing is not automatically the answer. Additional debt brings repayment obligations and costs, so businesses need to understand affordability, the purpose of the borrowing and how it fits their longer-term plans.

Regularly reviewing cash flow forecasts, debtor payments, expenses and upcoming tax obligations can help identify problems before they become urgent. It is also worth reviewing existing lending arrangements to determine whether they remain suitable for the business's current needs.

At Infinance, we understand that every business has different challenges. The right solution depends on the business, its cash flow cycle, its assets and its future plans.

Whether you are looking to fund growth, purchase equipment or simply create more breathing room between payments, a conversation with a financial adviser may help you identify your options.

Cash flow is king. Make sure your money is working as hard as you are.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
